Description

This galaxy is located 80 million light-years away in the constellation of Pyxis. It has a large diameter that is 140,000 light-years across.  When considering the great distance, it presents a target of 6 arc min across.   It has tightly wound spiral arms but no bar or ring.  There is a very slight tidal tail visible on the right side of the galaxy; the most likely cause is the small companion galaxy ESO 495-G017.   This galaxy can be found next to the bright blue star, about 2 o’clock from the main galaxy.

I tried something different this time; I had a go at drizzling the data set I acquired to present a larger version.  I’m not sure if I picked up any extra detail.  All I can say is that it added a great deal to the disk space and time required to process the image.   Well, the image is larger.
